Weekly community activities

FRoGR working bees

Our weekly working bees help to maintain the gardens at Gembrook Retreat. This includes our orchard of 102 fruit and nut trees, the healing gardens (the Indigenous garden, the Quaker Peace Garden, Maggie’s garden, and Harry’s tree), and the gardens surrounding David’s Cabin, Black Cockatoo House of Welcome and the Meeting House.

At FRoGR working bees, we spend time watering, weeding, planting, pruning, mowing, fencing, netting and harvesting.

Community singing

Friday night singing started during lockdown in 2020 as a household activity. We sing acapella with the occasional Youtube video to support us.  Songs are mostly from the Christian tradition, especially gospel, but also include folk songs, protest songs, songs in First Nations languages, pop songs, rounds, the occasional Disney classic and a whole series of ‘Sunshine’ songs to get us through the dark winters!  Instruments welcome, kids welcome, all welcome!

When: Fridays 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Where: In the worship room at Black Cockatoo House of Welcome.

Enter via the FRoGR room (office), from the Gate 2 carpark.

RSVP: info@gembrookretreat.org.au

Cost: Suggested donation $5

Games night

Another lockdown tradition, on Saturday nights we break out the games!  We have an extensive array of board games and card games to choose from, and occasionally we break out into charades or other more active games if we are feeling extra energetic.

When: Saturdays 7:30pm – 9:30pm

Where: Black Cockatoo House of Welcome

Enter via the FRoGR room (office), from the Gate 2 carpark.
